Looking for Book Suggestions

Not that anybody reads this blog. Anyway, I'm going through one of those "I need to learn a lot of things" phases, surely spawned by attending a cool hacker con in Berlin, and I want to know which books to read. I've got a lot on my list (p.s. I love Amazon, always recommending neat things), but most of them got there via recommendation or blind searching.

The kinds of things I am looking for are very technical books that will make me want to start coding. I probably need some fairly dense C books, I understand and have used assembly but I've never had any occasions to use C very thoroughly and I think that is something of a handicap. Also, I am interested in things like high performance computing, compiler design, natural language processing, functional programming languages and asynchronous networking. I'm happy with high theory and low theory books, and... just everything.

Except Java and Perl, the former upsets me and the latter has been played out. I'll read C# stuff though.

Oh and a graphics processing book or two. Yeah!
